WORK PLACEMENTS AND INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ANIMAL STUDIES STUDENTS
(Q&A):
If you are a student and would like to gain hands-on knowledge and experience of animal care, sheltering, management,
behavior or training, or if you just love animals and want to offer your time and energy to their care, why not consider a volunteer work placement or internship with PAWS? We receive numerous queries regarding these possibilities, perhaps the following information can provide you with the answers to some of your questions.
Q: Does PAWS offer any financial remuneration for students on work placements or internships?
A: Unfortunately, we do not. As a charity, all of our monies are donated, therefore, we are very limited as to funding and our monies go primarily into the running of our animal residence and towards animal care.
Q: Will PAWS offer me a place to stay?
A: A fully-outfitted caravan has been donated to PAWS just for this purpose, and is available free of charge, according to availability. Additionally, there is a large selection of hotels, rural guesthouses, B & B´s and even rental accommodations available in the nearby area, though costs will not be covered by PAWS.
Q: Is transport available for my use?
A: Mountain bikes are available for use for this purpose, though no motorized vehicular transport is provided during your stay. There are car rental agencies locally if you car to hire a car.
Q: Will my work at PAWS satisfy my work placement or internship requirements?
A: In the past, students have found that the work available for volunteers at our
Center is indeed suitable to satisfy their study requirements. You can always send details of your course needs to us beforehand, and we can provide a more detailed work outline for you.
Q: What type of work do you have available at the Center?
A. We mostly need help in the kennels for daily cleaning and general animal handling. Additionally, our Maintenance Coordinator can always use the help of hard-working hands. We also have several programs in existence and projected for the near future that involve hands-on work with the animals: grooming, bathing, socializing, walking, training, under the supervision of the Animal Adviser and the
Center Manager.
What participants will get is the satisfaction of working with a dedicated team of animal
carers and the knowledge that you have helped animals on their journey to find their new homes.
